The Big Book Box and ChapterOne Books is an Indian Startup which appeared on Shark Tank India season 2. This startup solves reader problems in two ways, first through ChapterOne Books which is an online book store & secondly, The Big Book Box, which is a curated monthly book subscription service. The founders sought an investment of ₹50 lakhs in exchange of 8% equity in their company valuing the business at ₹6.25 Crores.
The Big Book Box and ChapterOne Books have delivered over 70,000 orders since their inception including over 3 Lakh books. The company shared that their unique proposition is that the books which are usually not available in India or are only available at very inflated prices, make them more accessible and affordable.
Vineeta shared a story of her gifting books to her employees until she got feedback that young people do not read books. She added that it’s a declining market. The founders responded with a survey by Neilson which concluded that the market for physical books is growing. They added that last year the market grew by 26.1% which shocked all Sharks.

The Big Book Box has four categories in which they sell their books, and interestingly, they are all named after coffees. Their Frappe pack contains one book, Espresso has two books, Cappuccino has three books, and Mocha has four books. Their Espresso box is priced at ₹1,899, which is also the best-selling product on the site.
The company made a realized revenue of ₹3.5 Crores. For FY22-23, The company has already made ₹1.4 Crores by the time of their pitch, and they are projecting to close the year at ₹4.5 Crores. The company made a gross profit of ₹1.05 Crores in the last financial year, and net profit after expenses came to about ₹30 Lakhs.

Aman was the first shark to go out of The Big Book Box and ChapterOne Books negotiations due to his lack of interest in this category. Vineeta felt like there would be challenges with scalability therefore she went out as well. Anupam could not figure out the end vision of the founders consequently he went out as well.
Namita felt like this was still a declining market, and she couldn’t see her investment grow thus, she went out of the negotiations as well. She also added that India is a very price-sensitive market. Aman wanted to help the entrepreneurs but he couldn’t see this as an Investment therefore he went out as well.
