Jhaji Achar Shark Tank India Pitch:
“Jhaji Achar,” a homemade traditional pickle brand, made its debut on Shark Tank India Season 1, Episode 4. Founded by Kalpana Jha and Uma Jha in Bihar, India, the company started in June 2021. They sell many types of pickles, all of which are sun-dried with no added preservatives or artificial colors.
They have served over 2,500 customers in 3 months since their inception. They were serving the Delhi and NCR area at the time of the pitch, with most sales coming from online. Their last month’s sales stood at ₹5.14 lakh, of which ₹80,000 came from repeat customers. The average order value is ₹600, from which they spend ₹180 on marketing, ₹140 on shipping, and the cost of goods comes to ₹170, bringing the margin to ₹110 rupees. They need the money to meet the demand.
The Sharks loved the Achaar (pickle), but Namita says that she doesn’t have expertise in this area, so she goes out. Ashneer adds that they should work on the equity structure and grow profits before asking for investments, but for now, he is going to be out of this deal. Vineeta also adds that she doesn’t know how to grow this business, and the valuation is too high, so she steps out of the deal as well. Aman adds that he wouldn’t be able to commit time, so he goes out, and Anupam follows his lead as well.
Do you think the Sharks made the right choice by not investing in the company? Let’s find out!
How is Jhaji Achaar doing after Shark Tank India?
Our research on the Jhaji brand revealed that while they did not get a deal in the tank, some Sharks regretted not investing in their startup and then decided to pay them a visit to invest in their company. Namita and Vineeta went to Jhaji’s production facility to talk to the entrepreneurs and invest in their business. Jhaji Store shared this on their Instagram in January 2023:
“Last year, I was fortunate to spend time with Vineeta Ji and Namita Ji during Shark Tank. But watching them in my yard, it was different. We were shocked and stunned for some time when they came. A few days have passed, so many people surprised me on their arrival, hoping the business will grow and sharing the dream of making their daughters like them. These two inspired us all with their speech, gesture, and gentleness in 3-4 hours.”
