Get A Whey Shark Tank India Pitch:
Get a Whey is a health-focused ice cream brand founded by Jash Shah, along with his mother, Jimmy Shah. Their ice cream offerings provide 12 grams of protein per 100-gram serving and are free from added sugar or artificial flavors. Launched in 2019, Get a Whey has since expanded to over 200 stores across India. They are offering a range of flavors, including Belgian chocolate, salted caramel, and mango sorbet. Their ice cream has 4X the protein of normal ice cream because they use whey protein powder. At the time of the pitch, they were available in Mumbai, Pune, Gurugram, and Chennai.
They sell 22,000-25,000 units a month. Get a Whey made ₹15 lakh in their first financial year, FY18-19, which all came organically with no marketing expenditure. The following year, they made ₹50 lakh. They closed FY20-21 at ₹1.6 crores, and they have made ₹2.2 crores so far in FY21-22, with projections to close the year at ₹3.5 crores.
They have 10 cloud kitchens in Mumbai, with a total of 22 including other cities. The founders shared that this would increase to 45 by the year’s end. Their gross margin is at 69%, and the net is at 20%. Seventy percent of their sales come from online, and the rest come from offline. A remarkable 56% of their total revenue comes from their own website.
Get A Whey Shark Tank Negotiations:
Peyush thinks that the product is unique, but he adds that it’s a competitive market and that the product can be copied. Therefore, he stepped out of the deal. Anupam wanted to give the offer, but he thought that they already had pretty good offers on the table, so he went out of the deal.
Vineeta was the first one to put the offer out for 15% of the company for ₹1 crore. Aman was also interested in the company and gave an offer along with Ashneer of ₹1 crore for 12% of the company. Vineeta matched Aman and Ashneer’s offer of 12%. Vineeta suggested that she joins the offer, which others accepted. Ashneer raised the equity after Vineeta to 15% for ₹1 crore of the company, with all three interested sharks coming along. Entrepreneurs countered at ₹1.5 crores for 15% or ₹1 crore for 12%. After giving it more thought, the company closed the deal at ₹1 crore for 15% of the company with Vineeta, Ashneer, and Aman.
Who are Get A Whey founders?
Get a Whey is founded by Jash Shah along with his mother, Jimmy Shah, and sister Pashmi Shah. Founders stated that like everyone, regardless of age group, they also love ice cream but were not able to find somewhat healthy alternatives to traditional ice creams, so they made one. Jimmy Shah focuses on operations and recipes. Pashmi takes care of the marketing side, and Jash focuses on overall business development.
How is Get A Whey doing after Shark Tank India?
Our research in the company revealed that their deal with sharks did indeed close after the show aired, and the company is thriving. However, Get A whey was not included in Ashneer’s list of companies he closed a deal with so there is a possibility that he ended up not moving forward and Aman and Vineeta were the only Sharks who came along for the ride with possibly a different deal structure.
The company gave an update through Shark Tank channels in Summer 2023 that as soon as the episode aired, they were sold out in all the cities they had availability in at that time. Around ₹20 lakh has jumped to over ₹50 lakh in months after Shark Tank and ₹2.6 crores as of summer 2023, bringing their yearly revenue estimates to over ₹30 crores. They are also available in 45 cities across India with 160 cloud kitchens. Founders shared that they would be available in over 200 cities by the year-end of 2023 and aim to be available in over 350 cities within the next two years.
Sharks suggested that the company should partner with restaurants, which has been a huge success for the business. Founders added that Aman even helped them connect with the right restaurants. The company has also changed its name from Get A Whey to Get A Way, which was also the point discussed in its pitch. The brand has also gained the support of Bollywood actress and fitness enthusiast Malaika Arora, who invested in the company.
