DesignTemplate Shark Tank India Pitch:
DesignTemplate is an online design marketplace for premium motion graphics, templates, Illustrations & music. The company appeared on Shark Tank India Season 3 Episode 35 and sought an investment of ₹1 Crore for 2.5% of the company valuing the business at ₹40 Crores.
DesignTemplate was launched in 2020. They currently have a gallery of 15,000 motion graphic templates. The founder shared that their target audience is YouTubers, content creators and Designers. All their templates are editable in Adobe software. They sell single-use files for around ₹500 and charge ₹2075 for files which can be used multiple times.
DesignTemplate’s Financials and Revenue during Shark Tank India:
DesignTemplate also sells around 10% of their templates on Envato which is also competing for the same market. They had a team size of 15 at the time of their pitch. They made ₹16 Lakhs in revenue for October 2023. The company closed their last financial year FY22-23 at ₹1.6 Crores. They are projecting to do around ₹4 Crores in revenue in FY23-24 and have already made ₹1 Crore till October 2023.
The founder shared that they made ₹16 Lakhs last year, of which they spent 50% on commissions to other marketplaces, ₹6 Lakhs on salaries and team incentives, and invested the rest in technology. He added that they would spend this funding mostly on marketing and technology.
DesignTemplate Shark Tank India Negotiations & Funding:
Vineeta was the first shark to go out, citing that new skills would be required to take the business further, which she is not yet confident that the founder has. Peyush gives the first offer but with the condition that the funds would not go towards marketing but to develop new designs, team building and technology. With that he offered ₹1 Crore for 10% of the company plus a royalties of 2% until he makes ₹2 Crore back.
Ritesh goes out due to uncertainties in changing the direction from B2B to B2C. Radhika goes out citing that the direction the business is trying to succeed at is not yet proven. Aman comes in with second offer of ₹1 Crore for 10% but no royalties. The founder countered that with ₹1 Crore for 5% which Aman refused and they close the deal on their initial offer of ₹1 Crore for 10% valuing the business at ₹10 Crores.
